Learning the 6 Ball Fountain

Now we are starting to get into the harder stuff. 6 balls is juggled in the same way as 4, exept with 3 in each hand instead of 2. It will seem impossible at first, but then agian everything does until you start to get the hang of it. If you picked up the 5 ball cascade in a moderately short time, like 3-4 months, expect to spend about a year perfectiong 6 balls. Good luck.

Getting Started.

Since you probably forgot how do do a fountain because you have been working on 5 so much, warm up by juggling 4 balls for a minute or so, in your desired pattern. Once you do that, put 3 balls in your dominant hand. Try to throw them up and catch them all. Hehe, didn't do to good, eh? When you throw the balls, try to make them evenly spaced, throw them about 1.5 times the height that you normally juggle 5. That will give you the same speed, while you are learning 6. when you learn 6, it will get tiring, and some new problems will occur. WHen you are trying 6 or 3 in one hand, the first balls will go lower than the last ones on the release. That is bad, it will speed your pattern up at the beginning, and it will make it sloppy. Take the extra energy the throw them all way the hell up there, your pattern will last longer. THe key to a long run when starting out is the launch. If it is perfect, you will have a god run. That is why the flash is the key. With 6, before you try for 7 cathces, make sure that you can do a flash almost every time, or atleast half of the time. Anyway, try to qualify 3 in onehand with both hands (6 catches). This will take atleast a week. Try very hard not to get impatient. If you work on 6 too early, your progress overall, will be much slower. Remeber, for 3 in one hand, you need LOTS of scoop, the balls have to arc alot, every time you do one more ball, in one hand, the motion becomes akward alot. WHen you practice, make sure your arms are tired at the end. THat will ensure that they will grow, and you will be faster the next day. At first, 6 will seems fast, and you wont be fast enough, but you will gw quick quickly. Just practice practice practice.....

When you first put both hands together, that probelm of the balls colliding will happen agian. Think of how much scoop you need, and use more. If you have a problem of the balls driftime inward, exagerate the correction, and make it as wide as possible. Also, try makeing th pattern higher. That is about all that I can say.

Problems and Solutions

1. The balls collide no matter how ahrd I try, and I can't get past 12 catches. what should I do?????!!!

Well, as I said, exagerate the correction. Also go back to 3 in one hand, and work on that some more. When you can get 20 catches in both hands easily. Go back to 6 balls. You will probably get past 12 catches on your first try. you see. Every time you add a ball, you have to scoop farther and farther. When you get 3 in one hand solid in each hand, they are already used to stretching far enough to get the scoop. That way, the pattern won't get thinner as often. You will also have a better ability to correct it.

In my opinion, 5 balls will give you some frustration, but 6 will make you seem like you are stuck below 50 catches permanently for the first time. Also, I recoment not to skip to 7. Although you can, it isnt a good idea. if you do, your progress with 7 will be very slow. Every time you go to another ball, it takes longer to master. That also gets you ready to endure the frustration of the next level. Try to get 6 balls above 50 catches before working on 7. If you really can't wait, you con work on 6 and 7 at the same time, but don't skip 6 all together. It isnt a good idea.
